To Be Canadian #3

To be Canadian

Proud of who you are

Welcome as though you belong.

To be Canadian

Beautiful rolling green hills

Cypress the most famous of all.

To be Canadian

Farmers

Work like hurricanes

That never stop

Canola the reward.

To Be Canadian

Love of hockey

Wayne our hero.

To be Canadian

Miles of thick bush

Blaze orange with eager hunters

Wish to beat the Hanson.

To be Canadian

Fishing the sport of the summer

Great Lakes alive with Walleye.

To be Canadian

Is Freedom.

What Makes Good Poetry #2

I believe that good poetry consists of good description where the author describes things in the poem so well that the reader can visualize it. A good poem must flow well. This means no choppy sentences and you can go from sentence to sentence with ease. A good poem is when you tell it in the form of a story. What I do not like about poems is rhyming. I am more of a freelance writer who prefers stories to rhymes. I enjoy humour in a poem because humour keeps my interest and I like to laugh. I enjoy a little bit of over exaggeration or hyperbole in a poem. It keeps me interested and wondering what would happen next. If a poem does not have all these things I am not interested.

I Am Canadian #1

I Am Canadian

To be Canadian is to be awesome. To be Canadian is to deal with cold winters and hot, humid summers. Our extremely cold winters prepare us to kick butt in hockey and allowed us to win the Olympics in 2010. This proves that Canadians are born ready to skate. In the last olympics we ran away with 13 gold medals. If you say eh at the end of every sentence you are Canadian. If you know about the Hanson Buck and what it’s score was, you are a great Canadian hunter. If you live among rolling green hills and farm with massive, green equipment you are Canadian. The traits of hard work and good effort are what Canadians value. When you farm it’s backbreaking, hard work in order to get the crop off in time.

If you get free health care and wait more than an hour in Emergency to see a doctor then you are Canadian. Canadians are extremely polite. They treat newcomers like old friends. Canadians are a very multicultural society. In the last year alone they have let in 20,000 immigrants into our country and have given them jobs. No matter what race you are and no matter what color your skin is, you will always be allowed to live in Canada. If you’re trying to get out of a country for political or other reasons Canada, with its many freedoms, is a place you want to be.
